The South African GSX-8R should be quoted as a complete faired configuration, including its own suspension and bodywork, rather than as an 8S with an assumed list of additions. Shared engine architecture can simplify a comparison, but it does not remove the need to identify the actual model. This entry uses a 205 kg kerb weight, 810 mm seat and fourteen-litre tank for the R. Establish the stock designation and equipment on the dealer's order, particularly if the advertisement uses images from more than one model or generation. A precise quotation is the basis for a meaningful GSX-8R price comparison.
The engine is a 776 cc liquid-cooled parallel twin with DOHC valve operation. Its 84.0 by 70.0 mm bore and stroke and 12.8:1 compression ratio identify the platform used in several current Suzukis. The retained output figures are approximately 61.9 kW at 8,500 rpm and 78 Nm at 6,800 rpm. Those figures should be evaluated with the motorcycle's weight, controls and intended use. They do not establish acceleration times or an appropriate speed for a particular road. If you are moving from a smaller bike, a demonstration should focus on familiarity and smooth operation before comparing headline performance.
The six-speed transmission and Suzuki Clutch Assist System provide a conventional manual riding layout. Check the clutch-lever reach, the gear-pedal position and the relationship between your boots and the footrests. The sporting body does not tell you whether that layout will be comfortable over a whole commute. Take time to adopt your normal riding posture and examine whether the bars, tank and seat suit your build. Compare this directly with the naked GSX-8S if both are candidates. That comparison is more useful than assuming the motorcycle with a fairing must either be more comfortable or less practical for every owner.
The frame geometry includes a 25-degree rake, 104 mm trail and 1,465 mm wheelbase. Ground clearance is listed at 145 mm. These figures are useful when checking exact specifications and planning access, but a parking ramp also depends on the rider, load and approach. The R's 205 kg kerb mass should be assessed during a careful low-speed manoeuvre, including any reverse movement likely at home. The 810 mm seat-height figure does not capture seat width or the way your legs reach around the bodywork. A real fit assessment should therefore precede a decision based mainly on dimensions.
Showa SFF-BP front suspension and a Showa rear monoshock distinguish the R's chassis description. Both ends have 130 mm of retained travel. Ask which adjustments are available and how the standard settings are documented before changing the setup. If a demonstration motorcycle has aftermarket components or altered suspension, identify whether those changes are included in the quoted bike. The braking package uses twin 310 mm front discs with radial four-piston calipers and a 240 mm rear disc. Dual-channel ABS is included in the specification, and its normal instrument indications should form part of the handover explanation.
The front tyre size is 120/70ZR17 and the rear is 180/55ZR17, using the road-wheel layout appropriate to the GSX-8R. Keep the required load and speed ratings with those sizes when obtaining tyre quotations. The family-equivalent cold pressure figures retained for the platform are 250 kPa front and 290 kPa rear; the instructions supplied with the exact bike remain the practical maintenance reference. Similar engine capacity does not make V-Strom tyre or suspension recommendations suitable for the R. The different wheel sizes and use of those adventure models should remain outside this derivative's specification.
The five-inch colour TFT is worth seeing in daylight, from behind your own helmet visor if possible. Ask the dealer to explain the display navigation and warning lamps, and verify any phone or charging feature you require separately. The tank holds fourteen litres, so fuel-stop planning should use actual consumption rather than a guaranteed range inferred from capacity. For carrying items, select luggage that fits the faired body and has suitable mounting instructions. A listed 3.9-litre engine-oil capacity refers to overhaul filling; routine service work requires the appropriate procedure and level checks rather than blind use of that maximum quantity.
The GSX-8R's buying case is strongest when the faired appearance, riding position and Showa chassis equipment are positive reasons to choose it over the 8S. If four-cylinder engine character is the main attraction, the GSX-R750 deserves a separate assessment instead of being treated as the same type of machine with a slightly different capacity. Compare complete South African quotations and obtain the included warranty and service schedule for the actual stock. The best value judgement is personal and specific: equipment that meets your needs, controls that fit and a price covering the motorcycle you have inspected. No unverified reliability, resale or running-cost promise is necessary to make that comparison.
